4 Things You Need To Know (11/07/17)

Welcome to our daily update, where we summarise the key talking points from the last 24 hours.

1. Boris Johnson tells EU to go whistle

Boris Johnson has said the European Union can “go whistle” for what he considers an “extortionate” final payment from the UK before Brexit. “Go whistle seems to me to be an entirely appropriate expression,” he told MPs in Parliament.

Indications from Europe have hinted at a Brexit bill as high as £100 billion euros.

2. Trump Jnr releases Russian emails

Donald Trump Jnr has released the email exchanges he had with a Russian contact. The tweeted scans confirm that he was offered sensitive information allegedly incriminating Hillary Clinton in her dealings with Russia.

The emails could potentially be seen as evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Trump Jnr has denied any wrong doing and has released the emails to show transparency

3. Internet protest

Amazon and other major internet companies are set to protest on Wednesday against the United States’ Federal Communications Commission.

Users can expect slower loading times and altered appearances as part of the protest. The action is being taken to highlight the dangers of FCC proposals that would deregulate how internet service providers treat customers.

4. Coffee drinkers could live longer

Research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine Journal has suggested that drinking three cups of coffee a day could help people to live longer.

The study included nearly half a million people from across ten European countries. However, sceptics have said it could be that coffee drinkers are just more likely to have healthier lifestyles.
