3 Things You Need To Know (23/6/17)

Welcome to our daily update, where we summarise the key talking points from the last 24 hours.

1. Theresa May’s Brexit offer

Theresa May has said EU nationals who have lived in the UK for five years can stay with full UK citizen rights after Brexit. This amounts to three million people, and it represents Mrs May’s opening offer as negotiations with the EU continue. This would also protect the rights of UK citizens living in the EU.

However, European Council President Donald Tusk has said that this is “below expectations.”

2. More Towers affected by unsafe cladding

Eleven high rise towers have failed tests for safe cladding. Around 600 tests are scheduled to take place, in order to ensure that combustible cladding like Grenfell Tower doesn’t put residents at risk.

In an update on what started the Grenfell Tower fire, authorites have revealed that a fridge freezer was responsible for beginning the blaze.

3. Darren Osborne charged over Finsbury Park attack

Darren Osborne has now been charged with terrorism-related murder and attempted murder, following his arrest on Monday after his van hit a group of people.

The 47 year old appeared in court for a four minute hearing, giving his name and date of birth. He said he had no address.
